DIET
I'm not a big fan of the word "diet" in the context it is used these days. It's a negative, self esteem crushing four letter word.
Diet is simply the food in which you eat. However we have taken it and manipulated it into the word we know it to be today.
My idea of a diet is simple eating. If you are on a "diet" then you have a particular goal in mind, usually weight loss and you are usually including too much and too little of a certain food group. It's usually over thought and stressed about day in and day out, until the stress of deprivation begins to be too much for us to handle and we go over the edge and stop the diet.
Let's throw out the negativity associated with the word for a moment and use it the way it should be used.
To stay on track and get healthy, lose weight, gain muscle and all out feel better, our diet is KEY to those goals. Eating the corrects foods and the correct times. It's about reprogramming our thinking about food, our relationship with food and our bodies.
You must not only eat the correct foods but we must eat them often.
Start your day by drinking water, 8-12 ounces of plain or lemon water.
Eat within 30 minutes of getting up.
Eat a well rounded breakfast and never skip it.
Eat every 2.5-3.5 hours after that.
Finish dinner at least 3 hours before bed.
Finish drinking fluids 2 hours before bed.
Clean the kitchen after dinner and close it up. If you do get hungry, find something to do. If you're eating enough during the day, then that hunger you are feeling is either thirst or boredom.

Most importantly: Listen to your body. Get in tune with the signs and signals. If your eating is out of control, then find out why. It's not "just because".

Fall into Winter- Easy quick meal ideas (SOUP)
It's my all time favorite time of year, the Fall into Winter time! It's beautiful outside. Leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp and fresh, the markets are full of wonderful Winter squashes and it's SOUP SEASON!
One of my all time favorite foods is a hearty delicious soup. Almost any kind of soup can make my day! Soup is SO versatile and can be made with almost any ingredients that you have in your fridge.
Soups can be made ahead of time and easily stored in your fridge for a week or in or freezer for a few months.
Soup ideas:
Any squash!!!
Carrot
Broccoli
Any beans
Cauliflower
Onion
Kale
Any veggies that are leftover- Roasted veggies are the best!
Chicken and roasted veggies
Tortilla soup (either vegetarian or chicken)
Red pepper
You can experiment with different bases to the soups. I use a vegetable broth base, usually saute some onion and garlic, cook the vegetable either by sauteing, roasting or lightly steaming, add spices, the either pureed into a creamy soup or leave whole for a chunky soup. It's the easiest way to stay on track with clean eating and staying healthy, but it's also super yummy!
Be creative & experiment with different veggies, meats and beans. You can also make the base of your soup in the beginning of the week with roasted and pureed veggies then add the meat or beans later in the week.
Don't get stuck in a rut especially this time of year when the options seem endless in the produce aisle.
Happy Monday!

Catching Up
I have received a lot of emails over the past month regarding the lack of posting on Facebook and blog entries.
I am now working 3 jobs and although it's my dream to help people and all of my jobs are working with people, their health and their nutrition, it does take more time management on my part.
I am still working with people on an individual basis. I write up customized meal plans and am still doing one on one counseling. The difference is that I only am taking 5 new clients a month. If you'd like to be put on the waiting list, please email me at positivenutritionidaho@gmail.com and I'll be sure to put you on the list.
Please be patient with me as I readjust my schedule.
Have an amazing weekend!!
